It is tough for all involved when a parent and especially one
who had been fiercely independent, is no longer able to live
independently. The situation is all the more stressful when family
members do not live nearby and cannot provide the level of support
needed to enable their parent to stay in their own home which, in the
case of our mother, was decidedly her first choice.
Fortunately a friend recommended the services of Embec Care.
In our first meeting, we were impressed by the director's empathy and
sensitive understanding of our situation as well as her knowledge of
health care issues and of the many resources for seniors in the
community. Together we developed a care plan that respected our
mother's level of independence while providing sufficient support to
keep her safely and happily at home. The care plan contimues to be
tailored to meet her changing needs. Every effort is made to have the
same care-givers provide service to our mother and she has become very
fond of "her carers" and feels secure with them. Knowing this has given
me much comfort. I value the professionalism and genuine caring
demonstrated by staff and the time taken by the director to keep me
updated on an ongoing basis and in so doing alleviate much of the
anxiety I was experiencing as a consequence of living far away.
Embec Care services have made a huge contribution to the
welfare of our mother at a critical time in her life and in so doing
have contributed to the welfare of our family as a whole.

Embec Care looked after our mother for a
period of 6 months prior to her recent death. Our mother was always very
frightened by the thought of "having care". She believed her life would be taken
over. Embec allayed those fears in a way I didn't believe was
possible. They did so by going at the right pace.The team were

I had spoken to over 40 home care
agencies and had started to despair before I found

They didn't ask the "important" questions and it all felt very
impersonal....not something you want for a loved one. I guess I'm saying they
only felt like a business. Embec is ofcourse also a business, the
type we all hope we will never need to look to find......but Embec proved
itself to be more than that ....and I'm so thankful for mum and our
