Services and Support
Embec Care services are targeted at people who experience relative disadvantage as a result of frailty, illness or disability.
Some of the services are designed to provide practical support to people living in their own homes: to minimise risks to their health and safety and to sustain their independence. Other services provide personal support to enable independent living.
For many older people independence does not mean doing everything for themselves, but with a degree of support. Threats to independence include bereavement, deteriorating health, losing mobility, poverty and feeling a burden to others.
Staying independent often incurs additional spending whether its paying for small maintenance jobs or having a call alarm. Knowing where to go or who to ask for help can be a major hurdle to remaining independent. Embec Care will endeavour to make this process as easy as possible.
But the independence of people is not the only priority. At least of equal importance are the emotional well-being and social integration of people. Independent older people may be isolated, lonely and miserable, lacking in confidence and self-esteem, with little to look forward to. Embec Care will endeavour to offer value for service and support the person to lead a fulfilling life. Emphasis is on working with and enabling people to retain a sense of control over their own lives.
Embec Care Services value older people as active participants, who retain the right and ability to direct their own lives; and who can seize and use opportunity. The desired outcomes of our services place the emphasis on how people feel about their lives and themselves, rather than on physical functioning and task performance.
